Memories
MOM Wanting to keep you safe June 27, 2014

Taye we hiked up Glory Bowl on the Teton Pass today.  It was wicked steep, and of course it started to rain/sleet half way up.  I remembered the last time we hiked together was last summer in Hawaii and then again at Sunday River, when we were dropping Kiki off at Bowdoin.
It made me smile as I remember you "bounding" during our hike at Sunday River!  I imagined all of us hiking Glory Bowl and Kiki & Weston complaining, and you racing and bounding to the top, to make the rest of us feel feeble and weak.
When you were six you hiked with your cousin Joel in the Sister's backcountry, and Joel being five years older and a boy scout was anxious to be the first person to the falls.  You two practically raced all the miles to that area, and when we all caught up to you and Joel, you were on the slippery rock ledge, where the waterfall was crashing down.  Even Joel had not dared to go that close to the edge.  You always scared me, because you never seemed to have fear.  I had enough fear for the both of us. I only wanted to keep you safe.
As dad and I slowly made it to the summit today, we both agreed had you not crosssed over to Nordic skiing, you probably would've been one of those TGR extreme skiers.  I said you'd probably be wearing the avalanche beacon skiing down the Pass, but dad thought you probably wouldn't be one to wear a beacon, always playing life on the edge.  I said you might wear the beacon, but you would've probably forgotten to charge the battery.  I think we have always lived in fear, a fear you never recongized.
Even when you were paddling on your Stand Up Paddleboard on the North Shore, I was always having heart attacks, because you seemed so very far from shore, I was sure a current would float you to Japan. You would remind me people SUP to Molokai.
Remember when you decided to swim out to the island off of Kailua Beach, and a six foot Tiger Shark passed you on your swim, and those cute teenage boys "saved" you, by sailing you back to shore on their catamaran.
I'm sorry I was such a worrier all the time, I just wanted to keep you safe.  We are missing you so much Taye.
mom hiking with you June 26, 2014

Dear Taye,
Dad and I made it to Jackson Hole this evening.  It was light enough to get some mileage in on the trail up at the resort.  As we were climbing up Apres Vous, we thought of you in some many different ways.
The mountain flowers are in full bloom, the lupine, the arrowroot balsam, and even some of the bright red Indian Paintbrush.  You used to love that flower; probably because you were in an artist.
I remember hiking down from the tram with you and Kiki, and we were above treeline, and I had to pee, so I asked you girls to keep a look out, as I tried to find a big rock.   Well just below the trail, was another switch back trail, and as I'm relieving myself, I hear a lot of laughter, turns out an entire boy scout troop is just below my boulder, and I'm mooning them.  What happened to the look out girls?
When you were younger and we hiked out, I remember I thought it would take the entire day to get through our trail, because you liked to pick up every stone to see if there was an embedded fossil in it.
   I'm missing you Taye.
   Love, MOM
Theresa Koyama Memories??? June 24, 2014

Memories continued... I was absolutely mesmerized.  I couldn't take my eyes off it, such intricate detail, such beauty, such amazing talent!  I asked your Dad if it was a pre-printed kind of thing that you were carving out.  He said "no".  I kept looking at it thinking "no way".  I think I asked him again, he said "no, that's all Taye's work".  I was absolutely blown away!
I have the memory of that moment feeling so awestruck by your artistic gift.  Forever that image is etched in my mind, as you are forever with me in my heart.  Thanks Taye, for that beautiful memory!

Memories with question marks, what's up with that?  Well Taye, my love, I have had so many memories swirling in my head it has been very challenging for me to select one to share.  You're gonna have to give me a pass, cause I plan on sharing many more and I know you would tell me not to do it.
It was May 25th beforehand just got home from work, no one was awake yet except your Dad (as usuall).  He was sitting at the dining room table and I sat down across from him and I looked down and in front of me was this carving/etching (I definitely did not inherit any artistic genes)
Denise Ellington The Fencing Girl June 21, 2014

I wanted to share with you, that my husband Jeff and Taye's paths crossed about a month ago in a fencing class.
Jeff has been involved with the High Desert Fencing Club for the past 18 years and teaching classes there for the last 15. He has a passion for the teaching the sport and his favorite classes are with teens.
Cascade Academy scheduled two fencing  classes around the middle of May and Taye was in one of them. He distinctly remembers her and told me a cute story when he got home. It wasn't until yesterday that we realized that little sprite of a girl was your darling daughter.
Jeff said she was so tiny and cute and seemed almost demure as he was explaining the moves. She looked a little leery at him a few times, but once she got on the floor, he said he could't believe the transformation from demure little girl to fierce competitive warrior! He got a kick out her and enjoyed the rest of the students immensely.
Taye has touched many people over life and I'm sure that you will continue to hear more of these memories as time goes on.
